JD TX starter/gen parts ?

For you new up coming Tech's . Don't always believe the source .
This kind of problem will come up occasionally with all colors of gear .
Using this recent issue for an example . (Love my TX gators )
We have 8 of the tx gators here . During the warranty  period I had one that quit on the course ,discharged battery . After checking battery I pulled the plugs covering the brushes on starter/generator and noticed they we worn down.... one brush was past the holder and not contacting the armature well . No problem starter/gen sent out under warranty . I did check the other 7 to notice that 2 more were looking pretty worn out . I did get a response that they will look into it but...never heard back . Later on mentioned it again to the dealer . Again no response . Time past and warranties ran out .
During the winter maintenance I have a couple that the brushes are worn to or past the holders . 500 hours seems like pretty rapid wear .

2 look pretty good two are worn down quit a bit .
No problem I'll just order new brushes .

Looking up part # Hmm I see part# for starter/generator breakdown but list on left and picture shows it as 1 unit .
2 Dealers later I find out that parts are not available ?
A new starter is going to be on the high end off $$$$.$$.
Why would I throw out a perfectly good starter just because of no parts availability.

fairly common starter /gen

Taking brush measurements

Asked the Toro dealer (Veseys )if they can match them up .

and they got the exact match part # 103347310 .

While waiting for part I asked on Twitter and my go to tech site Golftechs about what they were doing to fix their starter / generators . Lots of answers and part # from the guys from different sources but one answer really stuck out from a guy out West . He just got it from his dealer ?

an there it is . All the searching and running around to find it at the dealer !
Talked to one of my dealers and he only looked at the diagram not realizing there was a parts break down in the description of part section .

But still that was the # I gave them to look up at the beginning of this circle .

Sometimes you have to dig deep especially if you have multiple units

2015 TX turf gator suspension issue

When we first started using these models one came in with a shifting issue .I noticed the shifting lever broken in two . After talking to the dealer it was quickly replace under warranty . We have 8 units 3 of the other ones were bent pretty bad . At the time we were still just hauling grass clippings .

John Deere recommendation was to put the rear shocks on the stiffest setting and to double check that the lever was at lowest point on the shaft . Seemed to help a little but were still seeing bent levers .

I did notice a clunk when making a sharp turn up hill onto a flat area . (even with no load 2 passengers) The suspension has changed from the ones at my previous course .( no issues )
Now that the warranty is over I have to figure out a cheap easy way to fix the problem .

Taking a piece of left over 1.5" square tube stock and cutting it in half length ways I'm able to extend the bottom stop plate just enough to prevent the damage .

Remove the stop plate and weld on the addition .

A little paint

and back on the machine . Less than an Hour to do both .

One  of the techs at a another course was having the same problem . He made  a steel narrower shifting arm to solve the same problem .

Nice little machines otherwise . One of my favorites .

Mounting a 2" receiver on tractor

Decided to add a 2" receiver hitch to our JD 5055 E tractor. I can think of many uses for one . Primarily to have the option of  moving winch from the XUV  to tractor if needed .Plus it will make a good solid area to pull from . I'm not a big fan of pulling from the bucket especially side pulls. In the past at other courses I've seen quick attack bars or hydraulic lines ruined from improper hook ups .

using some 1/4 stock from the scrap pile .

Picked up a receiver hitch from Princess auto and using a 2" square tube stock to weld it to .

Leveling up plates to mark holes for drilling .

A little test fitting.

Welding everything together .

Prime

Paint

and install . Nice easy project .

We're also adding a 12v jump station .Made a bracket to wire to frame ground and starter .
If tractor is in need of a jump we won't have to remove battery covers and pull battery tray out for a jump . If a machine needs a jump out on the course this will make it quick and easy .

Later I'll run wires to front of tractor to use for winch .

ran power cables to the front and installed Anderson connections

Worked out great .Now we can easily move winch from tracker to tractor .Tractor has way more anchoring power with bucket . Bucket arms have lots of clearance to winch .

JD 855D winch

Princess auto had some good deals on winches recently and we decided to add one to our XUV 855D .
I was going to make own bracket but.....

For 23$ it made more sense to buy one already made and customize it to the winch . Also just slides into the 2" receiver up front . Only had to notch a little section out of the bracket.

4000lb  warn winch should be enough for our use .

Wiring extended to direct wire to battery .

Leaving a little extra wire out front . Waiting on some Anderson connectors to install by front push bar so it can be remove to put on the big tractor if needed .

The crew had it out last week hauling some logs out of wet land area as instructed by the environment peoples assessment and suggestions

easily move winch to tractor .
